The McNulty Foundation is matching all gifts to the Friends of Bulungula through December 31st, 2020, up to $15,000.

The Bulungula Incubator (BI) is a rural development non profit based in the remote Eastern Cape of South Africa. The BI believes there is no single intervention that can enable a path out of poverty. With their award-winning holistic model, which spans the spectrum of Pre-Conception to Career, they are helping to create vibrant and sustainable rural communities. Help support the Bulungula Incubator through the Friends of Bulungula, a registered US 501c3.

POVERTY IS NOT ABOUT THE ABSENCE OF MATERIAL POSSESSIONS. POVERTY IS ABOUT PEOPLE NOT KNOWING OR OWNING THEIR CHOICES.

Réjane Woodroffe, Co-founder and Director of the Bulungula Incubator

The BI seeks to address the challenges of rural poverty in an integrated and systemic way through infrastructure, health, education and entrepreneurship. At the same time, the BI promotes and preserves positive traditional values and structures.

All projects are designed, prioritized, implemented and managed in partnership with our community and through traditional and elected leadership structures.

The BI's focus areas are education, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods (micro-enterprise and agribusiness) and vibrant villages (youth development, sport, art, culture).

The BI has been internationally recognized for its innovative and sustainable approach to rural community development. It was the 2014 winner of the John P. McNulty Prize.
