The McNulty Scholars Program for Leadership in Science & Mathematics

Established in memory of his commitment to advancing women’s professional and leadership opportunities, the John P. McNulty Scholars Program for Leadership and Excellence in Math and Science is an academic scholarship, mentorship and leadership program for undergraduate women pursuing careers in the STEM fields. The program provides unique opportunities for leadership development, and hands-on research experience at the undergraduate level which is proven to make a marked difference in the career prospects of those who receive them.

Hands-On
All scholars are guaranteed research opportunities with leading scientists in their field.
Publications
Every year, scholars are listed as authors on major peer-reviewed scholarly papers.
Moving Forward
Almost all graduates go on to pursue either, Master’s, PhD or medical degrees.
My interest in a traditionally male-dominated field speaks volumes to the gratitude I feel for the freedom to pursue my interests. If I could make it, I could help others do the same.

Munazza Alam, Hunter College ‘15, PhD Candidate in Astronomy, Harvard University

While pursuing their undergraduate degree, scholars receive financial support as well as guaranteed research opportunities with faculty mentors, giving them the experience to advance to the highest levels of their fields. Scholars have attended and presented their research at national and international conferences, and have been published in dozens of academic peer-review journals.

The McNulty Scholars program encourages the leadership development of each individual, combining the peer and faculty mentorship with skills-based workshops, team-building experiences, and exposure to leaders across the STEM disciplines.

McNulty Scholars join a lifelong community of women who are disrupting their fields. Graduates have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in biology, food science, mechanical engineering, astronomy, materials chemistry and neuroscience at institutions including Harvard University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, University of Pennsylvania, New York University, University of Illinois and Johns Hopkins University.

As a freshman, this program provided me with a built-in set of friends and a supportive and empowering community.

Madison Buddenbohn, St.Joseph's University '24
